Two members of the Victoire have McGill ties, including former Martlets forward Jade Downie-Landry (BA'20, BEd'23), who was sidelined by injury for the final series, and retired goaltender Kim St-Pierre (BEd'05), a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee who now serves as the Victoire's director of business operations. A third McGill connection is tournament MVP Marie-Philip Poulin, who served as a skills coach with the Martlets for several seasons.

The second rendezvous, played the next day, served as the first formal intercollegiate game of rugby-style football, which normally features an oval ball with the ability to pick it up and run. This game, however, was played with the same round ball as the McGill players had forgotten to bring their oval ball. Five months later, a return match was played in Canada on Oct. 23, 1874.
